HOWER, Bonnie Lynn Brodeur
Our beautiful daughter Bonnie had her life brutally ripped away from her on June 10, 2010, at age 33. Bonnie is a most precious and beloved daughter, mother, sister, niece, granddaughter, and friend to so many. Bonnie's two children, Hayley, ten years and Tyler, seven years, will never again see their mother's sweet face or feel her loving arms wrapped around them. Bonnie's voice has been stilled. Together in love and in the sharing of deepest grief are mother Sheri Galvez; stepfather Bobby Galvez; father Todd Brodeur; sisters Victoria Galvez and Lana Brodeur; grandparents Mary Kennedy and Larry Ward, Ralph Brodeur, and Marianne Brodeur; aunt Tomar Weaver; and uncles Larry Ward, Mark Ward, and Timothy Ward. This incomprehensible act of violence against Bonnie has brought such a tragic and unnecessary loss to us all. We, in our stunned torment, can only hope that time, indeed, will begin to ease our pain. We will never get over this outrage but can only slowly get past it, whi le this family, and all of Bonnie's friends, can create a new, happy and secure life for Bonnie's two babies in honor of all that was our Bonnie. For now our hearts are crushed. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, at Lakeland Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 2125 S. Bartow Road. A memorial service will also be held in Sacramento, Calif., at a future date to be announced. Her family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a trust set up for for Bonnie's children: Bonnie Hower Memorial Account c/o Exchange Bank, 1420 Rockridge Dr., Ste. 190, Roseville, CA 95661, Savings acct #125001272 RT#121101985. Police: Man Strangled Wife
Investigators say Bryan Hower of Lakeland killed Bonnie Brodeur Hower because he feared she would leave, take children. By Jeremy Maready
THE LEDGER
Published: Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 12:01 a.m.
LAKELAND | A Lakeland man was charged Saturday with strangling his wife to death and discarding her body in a hole he dug in the couple's backyard in North Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Bryan Hower, 33, told investigators he killed Bonnie Lynn Hower, 33, during a fight because he was afraid she would leave and take the couple's children, arrest reports said.
Bonnie Lynn Hower was reported missing about 5 p.m. Friday by her uncle, Timothy Ward, of Jacksonville. Ward said he had been called about 4 a.m. by Hower's daughter who said her mother was missing and her father was acting strange, reports said.
Ward left his Jacksonville home and drove to the couple's house at 4010 Timberlake Road W. north of Lakeland, according to investigators.
When he arrived, Bryan Hower told Ward that his wife was "gone," but told different stories about how she left, so Ward called the Sheriff's Office, the report said.
In one story, Hower told Ward she "left on foot," but then said he saw her get into someone's car and leave, the report said.
A deputy searched the area and found Bonnie Hower's body in a 4- to 5-foot deep hole in woods behind the house, according to the report.
Her purse was buried with her and a hand truck was found near the hole, reports said.
When questioned further, Bryan Hower then told investigators he strangled his wife about 3 p.m. Thursday after she came at him with a knife during an argument in the garage of their home, the report said.
Bryan Hower was arrested and charged with murder in his wife's death, the report said. He is being held without bail in the Polk County Jail. His first court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. today.
Bryan Hower said the couple was arguing because Bonnie Hower said she was leaving him and taking the couple's children with her to the beach, the report said.
When she attacked with a knife, Bryan Hower told investigators, he blocked it and took her to the ground in a choke hold, where she tried to grab a wrench.
"He said he covered her mouth with his right hand so the children would not hear the struggle," the report said. "He said he kept squeezing her neck until she stopped moving. Hower stated after the decedent stopped moving, he placed her body in the hole.
"Hower stated multiple times he felt he needed to kill the decedent in order to prevent her from taking their children away from him."
News of Hower's death Saturday stunned neighbors, who said they didn't know the couple well.
Neighbor Hunter Foskey said the couple always seemed cordial, but he never really got to know them.
Foskey would see the couple riding their two horses through the neighborhood and would wave in passing, he said. There was never any indication that there was anything wrong.
"I don't know. These days, it doesn't seem there needs to be something wrong for things to be wrong," he said. "It's such a pointless death."
State records show the couple operated their own company, Red Rock Solutions, that advertised "land and tractor services," such as excavating, mowing and stump removal.
The children, 7 and 10 years old, were placed into the custody of a neighbor Friday night, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The Florida Department of Children and Families is handling the custody issues involving the couple's children.
Family members, who live out of state, have been contacted and are on their way to Lakeland, said DCF spokeswoman Carrie Hoeppner. "Hopefully this is an interim temporary placement until the family gets here."

Bio: Here's a quick update fellow Encinians...Joined the US Air Force in 1999, survived basic training(it was a joke), and now between school and military life, I've been keeping pretty busy.  Its funny but I joined the military so they could pay for my school and so I could travel, but somehow I ended back here at Travis AFB, Fairfield, CA.   Yippee.  But at least they're hooking me up on the school thing tho'.   Next year I will apply for Physician's Assistant School(finally) and will be on my way back to Texas(been there for the last 2 years). In the 4 years before the military I was working full time and going to school full-time and involved in a long-term relationship(yes with Oliver).  So I've keeping pretty busy and because of that I've lost contact with a lot of good friends over the years which I truly regret.  And since this seems to be an open forum...I just want to say that I do like children, I just don't plan on having any right now.  I'm trying to work on the husband part first.   So, contrary to "popular" belief, my insecurities have nothing to do with children or anyone else to say the least.  My life is going well, and I am happy and having fun and that is something that I wish for each and every one of you.  I guess Robert Frost says it best for me,  "Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."  Eat your heart out, Miss Nichols;)
Trivia: Ummm...no.

Memorable_teachers: Mr. Luchini because of SQ3R(used it in college!) and because he used to kick me and Ernestine out the class cuz' we had "sailor mouths";)  Mrs. Nichols cause she made class interesting with all her drama.  And the Asian Spanish teacher(cant remember how to spell his name) because he threw the best fiestas.
Favorite_memory: I have 3...1)  Last day of Sophomore year, we piled like 7 or 8 deep in Somgnot's car and rolled up to Folsom lake.  2) When the whole crowd in the bleachers was yellin' "BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT!!" to the refs on a bad call on Lonnie Powell.  3) Ernestine and her chicken routine on the bus trips for B-ball.
Story: ...Hey Dickies, ya'll remember when we marched down the street to Hotshots(the pool hall) singing and carrying on, and Shammond was dancin on the corner? We called ourselves "eight ball":)  Those were some good times, times I will never forget.
