FAQs

Can I bring my significant other?
YES! Please do. But, they'll need a ticket just like everyone else.

Can I bring my kids?
Although I'm sure everyone would love your children, this is intentionally a Kid Free night. We all need a fun night out without the kids, right? Please make your babysitting arrangements now. You and your entire family are invited to the Kid Friendly event on August 23rd.

Can I invite other classes? (ie: 83, 84, 86, 87)
YES! Please do. They'll also need a ticket just like everyone else. They and their families are also invited to our Kid Friendly event on August 23rd

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There is street parking available if you are lucky enough to find it. There is also a paid parking structure directly accross the street on 11th, between I street and J street.

Coming from the Bay Area? Take the train! Capitol Corridor Train Tickets

I don't live in Sacramento any more...where should I stay?

If you aren't staying with friends, here are a few suggestions for hotels:

Within walking distance:
The Citizen Hotel
Sheraton Grand Hotel
The Sterling Hotel

Within a short Uber or taxi ride:
The Governor's Inn
Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham

This is just a few of the hotels nearby, there are a lots of options!

What do I get for the cost of the ticket?
We tried to find a somewhat inexpensive yet fun experience for everyone that includes a venue, light appetizers and desserts, security, servers, bartenders, and insurance. If we get more people than estimated in attendance we will add a photographer, more food, a professional photo booth with props, and maybe a drink ticket or two. But, we won't know if we can do that until we have the lions share of PAID attendees.

What's up with the FEE on the tickets? How do I NOT pay that?
The additional fee that is added onto our ticket price is the cost to use this fancy schmancy Eventbrite ticketing system, which hosts all this lovely information, tracks all of our attendees, creates tickets, emails them automatically to you, and processes money and automatically sends it to our Pay Pal account so we can pay for the venue/food/ETC. There's also a Pay Pal fee that you're not seeing, but that's incorporated into the per person cost. FANCY, right? We would prefer that you use this service, BUT if you would like to avoid paying the additional processing fee, there's this thing called The U.S. Postal Service that is still in existance. Please email mimi@mimijkent.com to receive mailing instructions.

What do I wear?
You should wear what you feel comfortable wearing. If you want to dress up, you can. If you want to wear jeans & a t-shirt, by all means do that. Please keep in mind that the venue is an empty swimming pool, with steps.

What can/can't I bring to the event?
Please bring your camera! There is no outside food or beverage allowed, no smoking or vaping inside the building.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
mimi@mimijkent.com

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
There are no refunds, but if you wish to give your ticket to another Class of 1985 alumni, please let us know.

Emery of Erie, mother Paulette Emery of Monroe, sisters Tina (Paul) Spencer of Monroe and Christie Palmer of Erie, brother Jimmy Lee Emery Jr. of Monroe, and eight nieces and nephews.  Friends may gather from 2:00pm-3:00pm on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185.   A Celebration of Her Life will follow at 3:00pm, also at Merkle’s.  [Published by Merkle Funeral Home]

I never thought I'd go from dishwasher to Executive Chef. Ever. But I'll tell you what, there's no other job in the world where you can get such instant gratification. From the Sizzler, to Woodys', to the Red Lion inn, to the Doubletree hotel, to the Brown Palace Hotel, and finally, the Black Hawk Casino by Hyatt.
"Cooking is easy, it's just common sense"
Now, I write, and mentor burgeoning writers who are serious about their craft. I randomly give out fresh flowers along my way, (roses, but never red, but mostly daisies.) If not, then you can catch me playing guitar. Oh, I love sending free CD's to people I meet, usually online. They may live here, in the U.S., or anywhere else in the world. Of course, I would never think about asking for postage, it's always on me. When I give, I get much more out of it than the recipient. By far.
If you want to hear samples of Bruce BecVar, his website is at http:// www.shiningstar.com I'll send you a copy of Time Dreams, all I need is a valid mailing address. Mine is
5344 Marconi Ave. #101
Carmichael, CA 95608
Trust me, I don't send out music for free just because, but because of the phenomenal feedback I get. It's relaxing, yet invigorating. There are no lyrics in Time Dreams, but that's the beauty of it.
Toodles!

Bio: Well..not really knowing what I wanted to do I stumbled into Sac State and actually had a great College experience and met my beautiful wife
Janine. I started a small business and after a short time felt the need (for some stupid reason)to climb a corporate ladder if I was to get married and
start our family. So after several interviews I switched to a Management postion with a large company that had a "training" program. Sounds great
right! well it was a glorified grunt, catch all postion that, although not fun at the time, did teach me alot. After several years I changed Companies but stayed in management and continued to learn alot about myself and people.  I was not expecting the personal growth when I took the positions,
but when I reflect back I know now how valuable those times were.  I was promoted to a General Manager and they moved me to the Bay area. I was in
the middle of the Dot.com Boom and found myself commuting and working alot and not spending the time I wanted to with my new young family.
So I decided to get my Real Estate License and work for myself, I now have a five minute commute, coach my girls teams and live in the best kept secret in the Bay Area- Livermore. Life is Good!

those seniors would react when they saw 85 in their lawn!!! well...needless to say..it hardly burned the lawn...and in our excitment our five looked
almost like a six ...I remember in the middle of this adventure thinking that it would be something I would remember fondly in 20 years...well...things dont always work out they way you think!!!

Bio: After graduating, I met my ex-husband and moved to North Carolina. We lived there for about 3 years then moved on to Seattle, Wa, and then back to Sacramento. I did a variety of jobs while we raised the boys (Greyson & Ashton). Then we moved back to NC. Things didn't work out between us and we divorced. That's when I decided it was time to have a career, not a job. I entered nursing school. I was doing work-study to help pay for classes and the position I was in opened up as a full-time opportunity. Being a single mom at the time, I dropped nursing school and took the job. I never wanted to be a secretary, but life has a sense of humor. I've been working in that position since. In the meantime, I met and married my current husband, Jerry. He's a "country boy" and makes me laugh. I wouldn't trade him for the world. We've been married 5 years now and have twin girls of our own.
Friends: Destin Ferdun was my bestest friend. We kept in touch for several years, but I lost track of him a couple years ago. I would love to find out
how he's doing now. I tended to hang out with the drama crowd and the Madrigal singers. I still think about them quite a bit and wonder how they've been.
Hobbies: Who has time for hobbies? I played softball for a while, but had to quit when my schedule and the boys' schedules started conflicting too often. I still read and sing every chance I get. I've also taken up skiing!
Kids: Greyson is 15 and gets his learner's permit next month (God help us all!) and has started a chess club at school. He's quite good. Ashton is 14. He's in a touring boys choir, plays the sax, and can't keep his nose out of a book, either. Kayden & Alexis, my twins, are 20 months. They love to sing and read, too.

forget the look on Destin's face and how he tried to drag me across the gymnasium to the nurse's office with yelling, "I can walk" the whole way.
Kind of an odd memory, but it still makes me laugh.

comments: I meet some really great people at Encina & made some really good friends.  I have to say that I went to school with some pretty nasty stuck-up rich kids from Jonas Salk to Encina who where not always nice to others for no reason at all.  I hope those people have changed for the better.  Not everyone can be rich, pretty, handsome or popular but that does not mean your less of a person.  Now days those people that are always made fun of or feel left out are killing those same type of classmates in school.  Thank God we grew up in a somewhat more innocent world.  I just wish success & happiness to those that we know...

Bio: Attended ARC for about....3 weeks, taking art and english classes. Ended up taking a job in retail at PayLess Drug in North Sacramento (Del Paso Blvd. & El Camino Ave.! aka "The War Zone.") Stayed there from May of '87 until October of '92 when I was offered a opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new graphic design company. Unfortunately, that crashed and burned and I returned to Pay Less. In June of 1996 I, (after much foot dragging), went into management as a supervisor. In July of that same year my wife (who I had met at the store in 1990,) and I moved our family out of Sacramento and put down new roots in Newport, Oregon which is a little town right on the coast. I secured a transfer to the Pay Less store in Newport as a supervisor and was much alarmed when the company was bought straight out by Rite Aid paharmacy in December of 1996. We stuck to it and I accepted promotion to Assistant Manager in June of 1998. My greatest "doings" since graduation was meeting and marrying my lovely wife Marcella. When we met she had recently divorced and was raising her two young daughters. Together, we created two more girls and now I have a housefull!
Trivia: Lance Ballance and I created "The Skippyheads" sophomore year in Mr. Botello's photo class. It was a sloppy comic strip starring a bunch of the guys we hung around with at school. 15+ years later ( on and wayyy off!) I'm still at it. We flunked photo, by the way. The strips, for the most part, are sloppy and unpublishable. I did, however, sit down late last year and started a brand new one that I've been actually taking some time at doing. I'm up to about 170 newspaper type "dailies." When I get about a years' worth I may submit them. Who knows?
Friends: Lance Ballance, James Kevin Harding, Jay Davis, Andy Greene, Mike Ward, Donald Earl Avis. I have managed to stay in very close contact with Lance & Jim, (we were in each others' weddings,) and have had contact with Jay, Andy and Mike. Mr. Avis went into the Air Force and was never seen again (!)
Hobbies: If the weather's nice we're down at the beach (which is around the corner and down the street...no kidding!) I do try do draw a little each day (sometime's at work ;) ) but most of the time my wife and I are running around taking care of our 4 daughters.
Kids: My step-daughters are Loretta Jean  (12 years old,)and Amanda Christine (10 years old.) They were joined by Samantha Tyler in 1994 who is 6 now, and, our baby, Karina Robin, who was born in 1996, a month before we moved to Oregon.

I was "Moose" on our "Mean Machine" football team. Great memories.
Junior_high: Howe Avenue.
Junior_high_friends: Andy Greene, Jay Davis, James Kevin Harding, Mike Ward, Andy Budlong.
Memorable_teachers: Mr. Chambers, art class. Started off each class by telling everyone to "take a tranquilizer and get yer coffee and doughnuts and settle down." Mr. Dahlin in ceramics who warned everyone not to make "anything, and he meant anything that even closley resembled a pipe or bong." Mr. Rollins, who looked up "geek" in the dictionary because he kept hearing it in class. Upon finding it he read aloud the definition, and loudly agreed that he had several "geeks" in his class. Senior year: Mr. Adan, the new art teacher. Gave me the most profound and guiding words, "Don't be a Zit."
Favorite_memory: Lots...Andy Greene, in the aforementioned ceramics class, asking the substitute teacher for a pass because he was ill. She refused because she thought he was bluffing and he promptly threw up all over the table. Jeff Watson and crew doing "The Love Machine" at one of the Air band competitions. Lance Ballance mooning our P.E. coach and getting caught doing it. And many, many more.
Story: Umm...I just did. I do have a regret that I was mostly a non-contribitor. I even skipped our 10 year reunion on the basis that the people I hung around with in school (Lance, Jim etc.) were the same ones I had stayed in very close contact with. Oh, well.

Occupation: Fraud/Review Analyst for Health Insurance Company
Bio: A year after graduation I met the man I would eventually marry, Jim Beck.  We spent many years working and living care-free {some might say irresponsibly} but we had a great time and have few regrets.  WE married in 1992, bought our home in 1994 and had our baby-girl in 1996.  I've spent almost 11 years with he same Health Insurance company and I thoroughly enjoy my work in Fraud Investigations.
Trivia: My closest high-school friends will remember that I started living on my own in the middle of my high school years and basically cut myself off from most of my family.    As the years have gone by I have gotten right back where I belong with my family and couldn't even imagine not seeing them all the time.  On a more 'interesting' note: The first date I had with my
husband ended in a motorcycle accident and we have been together ever since {both of us recovered without incident}.  Odd start to a life long relationship, huh?
Friends: Paige Richter, Jill Roberts, Jamie Simmons and Fawn Langhorst. Paige and I lost contact on and off for years after high school but 'got back together' about 5 years ago.   She is now one of my closest friends and I'll be sure not to lose her again!    I speak to Jamie once in a blue moon on the phone but we rarely get to see each other.  Jill and I also speak to
and see each other infrequently but she and her family will always have a special place in my heart also.  None of us have spoken to Fawn since high school and we are sad about that.
Hobbies: I enjoy rollerblading and biking although I do neither often enough.  I enjoy reading biographies of old movie stars and doing Creative memories.
Kids: Our daughter was born March 19, 1996, the day before her daddy's birthday.  Her name is Sydnee and she is the light of our lives.  She is a beautiful, head-strong, live personality and she keeps us on our toes.  As of today {yeah for me!} I am only working part-time so that I can be a mom to her more that evenings and weekends and I think we are going to love it!
Grade_school: Cottage Elementary
Grade_school_friends: I only see them about once a year but I would include here: Laura Albright, Ann Duane, Kathryn Stanton, and Susan Spencer.
Junior_high: Jonas Salk School
Junior_high_friends: All of the above, Robin Hagy, Tiffany Stark, Emily Marchant, Sally Howard, and I am sure there are more that I just can't remember!
Memorable_teachers: Mr. Figenshu; I had alot of stuff going on in my life during my year with him and he was such a great listener, advisor, teacher. I often think of him fondly and think how lucky I was to have had him pass through my life.
Favorite_memory: The rallies.  I loved them!  I'm still a sucker for spirit.
Story: About Mr. Carroll---I had him for a 2nd semester class which I rarely ever attended.  The day before graduation after he agreed to pass me {probably just to get me out of there!} he said to me, "I hope you don't screw up in life the way you screwed up in my class".  I want him to know that I never forgot those words and that I DIDN'T.  Thank you.
