JENI COOK WALKER Spouse's name: Jim Walker Grade school attended: Wyda Way - home to the best principal Mr.Darling who gave trampoline lessons. And whatever happened to pegboards? I tried to tell my kids about them.. Middle school attended: Howe Av. - where jock straps were hung like a lock on the doorhandle to the boys gym. I reside in: Roseville, CA Names of kids and their ages: Lucy Marin Walker, age 9, and Phoebe Rose Walker, age 8 Occupation: currently I am an aspiring artist, stay-at-home mom, and sometimes real estate assistant to my husband. Colleges attended: University of the Pacific, 2 years; UC Berkeley, 1 year; UC Santa Cruz, 2 years; University of Arizona, 1 year Most interesting job(s): Realtor for the last 8 years, I am proud of my work and the friends I've made as a Realtor. But now that I able to be a stay-at-home mom, life is even more interesting because I'm able to do the paintings that I've dreamed of doing for years. It's a learning experience every time I pick up the brush. Each painting is like a new child. Different careers: hardware store clerk, video store manager, late night liquor store clerk, waitress in a cowboy bar, one summer I got to work at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. I really liked sitting in the box in the arcade. Favorite teachers: at Encina: John (Mr.) Figenshu, Eric (the ceramics guy) Dahlin, Laverne (Senor) Gonzales, and Ross (my biology guru) Clover. Favorite memories from Encina: I recall taking a seminar at the hospital and seeing a corpse up close. Also a seminar at the hospital on plastic surgery and seeing an Encina teacher's face, Before & After, bigger than life up on the slide screen. I won't say who it was. The Mexico trip to Mazatlan, seeing Paolo's home and thinking that life could be more interesting if I expanded horizons. The girls team sports class was fun, especially stick hockey. Painting and ceramics classes were best, listening to KZAP, hanging out. Names of siblings who attended Encina: Cindy Cook Duarte, Steve Cook, Kris Cook Schuster, Sue Cook Dellinger, Helene Bullat, my Swiss sister Reunions you have attended: none, zip, zero, nada, and zilch. Number of years married: ten happy years and only once. States lived in: Maine (hated the snow but t'was pretty as a picture postcard ... I heard more than one local say that, really), and Arizona (loved the high desert and the cacti ... my kind of houseplant). Most dangerous things: scuba diving and sky diving, climbed a rock face once before it was any kind of popular sport and found myself caught between a rock and a hard place where I couldn't reach up and I couldn't reach down. I knew panic at that moment but the panaramic view is still amazingly vivid. I smoked non-filtered Camels for 10 years, 20 years ago, but don't tell my kids. Most interesting vehicle owned: My favorite vehicle was my first, a 69 chevy nova that I bought in Maine and which crashed (gently, into the rear end of a Mercedes Benz) on the way home to California - because the brakes had rusted out. Minus a front bumper, I drove my nova on the back roads of the mountains and deserts of Arizona. Most serious injury/accident: I think I fractured my tailbone as a kid jumping from one side of Sacramento's largest most wonderful tractor-sized innertube to the other side where, having missed, I landed on my butt. And I think I fractured it again a couple of months ago when I slipped on the stairs. Things that make one feel like a kid are sometimes the more painful memories. - I'd still like to know who took our innertube. Anyone want to 'fess up? Number of books you read per month is: anywhere from 2 to 15, mostly hardcore sci-fi . Longest vacation: could've been longer, but: ...6 months in Yucatan...living in a small town only an hour's bus ride (with chickens flying loose and pigs running up and down the aisle) from the capital city of Merida. I lived in a house on the beach and at night the waves would sparkle. I remember there was a very scary and very ancient man who guarded the ruins of an old coconut orchard right next door. He always carried a gigantic machete in one hand like a zombie. I remember one day when a friend and I were taking a short cut through the coconut orchard (yes, we were trespassing, there were no fences as such, only stone walls with sleepy iguanas nodding their heads in the sun), and the old man suddenly appeared. We tried to hide in the remains of a small burned out stone house, but he must have seen us. He walked slowly towards the little house, stopping, listening, walking again until, machete in hand, he came to within 3 feet of us. I remember the fear, the gut-frozen mind-numbing knee-can't-move kind of fear, when the old man finally turned and asked, Quien esta aqui? I about died. Turns out he was totally blind, extremely sweet-natured, and enjoyed telling stories about the illegal traders along the gulf coast. Most exotic vacation: I've always enjoyed being able to say that I vacationed on the pure white beaches of Cancun prior to its current existence as a tourist resort. I slept in a hammock hung between two coconut trees and swam in the bluest waters ever. The place was virtually uninhabited, a couple of snorklers. I never carried a camera back then, but I have some neat sketches of the Tuluum wallpaintings. Countries : ) visited: England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Hawaii and Mexico. My Kids: Lucy, 9, likes to think she can play baseball, at school she's tetherball queen, and she also likes to ride her bike down to the local stream and go fishing for perch and sea bass. She reads a lot, a book a day sometimes. Phoebe, 8, can now ride her bike one-handed, likes to improvise on the guitar and organ, needs lessons someday soon, and has gone dirt-biking with her daredevil friend Hailey (who has encouraged Phoebe to 'fly' by getting her to jump off the stairs in our home onto an inadequate pile of pillows). She fearlessly picks up spiders and other nefarious bugs of all shapes and sizes. Except black widows. My dog Cowboy Joe is my other kid, and he's the naughty one who keeps us all laughing. And if we weren't laughing, believe me, we'd be crying. He's chewed up our brand new yard, twice, and if anyone out there wants him, you've got my email address (joking!). Joey thinks he's an alpha male, most of the time, and other times, he pretends to be one of the kids, running up and jumping right in when he sees group hugs. Kids' interesting accomplishments: Gate program. 'Nuff said. I'm a lucky person. (Joe the wonderdog did take a Fuji aple tree and manage to magically transform it into a bonsai dwarf apple tree ; ) |

Joe Busby accidently cut right into the scent gland and stunk out my nieghbor hood for three months. If you walked around the corner at Kubel Cr your eyes would burn it was so strong. My nieghbors where pissed. Most serious injury/accident: Dislocated three bones in my foot and fractured the fourth, my foot was flopping, Kaiser misdaignosed it as a sprang and it healed broken. Then they had to remove all the cartiledge out of my foot and replace it with bone to fuse my foot along with three screws to hold it together. Six weeks laying down, three months in a wheel chair and then a walker it was a big ordeal. Luckily still walking and standing thanks to a great Orthopedic surgeon. I remember hanging out at Mc Donalds, all the kids smoking in the bathrooms, cutting class and getting stoned, going to rock concerts, concerts at Cal Expo, the Riots at Cal Expo when we tipped over the paddy wagon, party's at the River, Smeeden parties anounced on K-Zap with live bands and 300 people. Hitchhiking all over the place, Long hair, short dresses and hot pants, Disco Days, Bridge jumping, floating down the river. The Santa Anita Park Gang, Lyserjicaciddyelthmide. Kilos of Pot, when girls wore dresses to school. Eight track tapes, The music, the dancing, the parties, Vietnam war, halter tops, the fun never stopped. See you soon, Dona |

Encina High School Football - Those of you who toiled through the double sessions, summer camp for some of us, and played Apache Football for any of the four years will know we had highs and lows but I really enjoyed playing the game with you all. Some of my best friends today, I met through high school sports. I want those game films out of archives and on disc or vhs! My favorite football memory was making all conference on an 0-9-1 team. My favorite wrestling memory was our trip to Hawaii our senior year. I won every match and was out every night buying booze with a bogus military ID card (no picture) I obtained from an enterprising swabbie at the Pearl Harbor Naval base (where we were staying). I knew I had to pin my opponents early or I would succumb to the heat, humidity, and a vicious hangover. Favorite unorganized sport - Playing no pads tackle football in a loosely organized league of teams such as The MadMan (the most dominant team in league history), The Clap Kids aka The Clan (you know who you are), the Cloonie Crushers (Lee Elliott was a crusher...) and others. We played at fields like Cottage Park, The Power Lines, and Teichert. Teichert was unique. One end zone was at the top of this grassy bowl with one end zone at the top of the bowl. Imagine catching a kickoff and running downhill... imagine tackling that same person. Classroom moment - First day of school, freshman year, sneaking a piece of a jolly rancher cherry stick and having it crash to the ground in Mr. Jarvis's class. This kid in the desk in the next row looks at me and the candy on the ground and snatches it up and eats it. We both laughed. That is how I first met Mike Short. Trips to Dillons Beach - As soon as Alan Lew had his license, it seemed that his parents gave him full access to their Camper. I am here to tell you that giving a 16 year old a camper is opening the door to more unauthorized fun that you can shake a stick at................. Halloween Antics - Not sure how it started but somehow there was a challenge to a egg fight with the battleground to be Sierra Oaks. We had skirmishes all over. Alan Lew was driving his parents' station wagon and had lost control of the 6+ passengers and at one point, there is a commotion in the back and they're trying to hold Ollie Bell. The next minute, Al and I are looking out the front window and we see Ollie's shit eating grin as he is peering in from the roof of the car! We were going about 25mph.... thank god there was a luggage rack! Geez The numerous parties at Fahn's house. Definetely a promoter from an early age. Fastest you have driven: Unauthorized - 145 - Garden Highway in father's Firebird Formula 350 (could be higher, you would have to check with my passengers.) Authorized - 224 - Eight laps in a full blown NASCAR at the Richard Petty Driving Experience in Orlando Florida. What a gas! Most interesting vehicle you have owned: 1969 VW Convertible - First car I ever owned and I STILL OWN IT! Silliest thing you have done: At the first Niners Superbowl Parade, I was sitting on top of a truck near the beginning of the parade. As the last motorized cable car crawled passed, I decided to step off of the truck and onto the roof of the last car and rode in parade all the way to the Civic Center (the people in the car didn't know I was there and the crowd assumed I was authorized). As they were unloading the occupants at the Civic Center podium, I got up and started a GO .............. Niners ............. chant and had the 100k fans in attendance eating out of my hand until a policeman shouted "Hey, get down from there" and I expected to be hauled off but once I was off of the cable car, he felt his job was done and I walked off with the feeling that I had been part of something unique.
