PAUL REMME '77 Faris Kasline (mother of Linda Kasline 77 and Ann Kasline 78 wrote: Paul Remme 77 was killed early am on Saturday. Apparently was crossing the street @ 12:45 am when someone did not see him in the dark and hit him. Was taken to UCMed Center where he died. The funeral will be Wednesday the 16th at 3:30pm at Good Shepherd Church on Morse & Arden. REUNIONS For those of you trying to track down classmates for your reunions this year, I have a suggestion. When I hear from a alumni that they have a sibling, I add the sibling to the appropriate class directory. But there are lots of alumni who either don't list their siblings, or who do not have email and don't see the update asking them to notify their siblings. Cindy Rea 68 went through all the surrounding class directories looking for alumni with the same last name as those 68 classmates who were missing. She was always sending me mail asking how to contact this person or that in order to track down a 68 classmate. Cindy was successful in tracking down lots of missing classmates in this way. It's a very time consuming process and Cindy ran up big phone bills. But the end result was about 275 people at the 68 reunion last year! The classes which plan to have reunions this year are: 1964 1969 Alan Dankman (adankman@worldnet.att.net) 1973 Mini-reunion: Rett Smart (irsmart@ix.netcom.com) 1974 Bob Goosmann (Magusbob@hotmail.com) 1979 Laura Graff Allred (pacwest@foothill.net) Great Reunions: info@greatreunions.com 1984 1989 Janice Barnes (jabarnes@dttus.com) 1994 Candy Mleczko (candym229@hotmail.com) CLASS OF 1968 Ridgley Sheldon 68 writes: "The 1968 class reunion memory books are being compiled now and should be in the mail within the month. So by July I would assume we should have them." In 1966/67 I was an officer in A'Capella Choir with Pat Penney, Dave Babayco, Marilyn Newman, Sue Cooper, Bonnie DuBoe and Dianne Jennings. We were racking our brains on what to get Mr. Carey as a Christmas gift from the choirs. Someone came up with the bright idea of installing a new radio in his Volkswagen bug and surprising him with it on the day of the Christmas Concert/Party. We enlisted Joann Carey's help to keep the whole thing a secret and the plot got quite complicated. I think Mr. Golden and Mr. Bassett were in on it because we had to get permission to use the auto shop on campus to install it. We also got someone who was in the Sherrif's office in on the plot. Mr. Bassett asked to borrow Jack's car at lunch time because his was supposedly in the shop. He came back in a few minutes later with the keys and said the car wasn't in the parking lot. Jack went out to look and sure enough it was gone! [We'd used the keys provided by Mrs. Carey to drive it around to the back of campus to the auto shop.] All this time those of us in on the secret were being very sympathetic and concerned about the apparent auto theft, and also trying not to spill the beans. Mr. Bassett called the sherrif's office and our deputy came over to take the report of the "stolen car." Poor Jack went through the rest of the day with a very worried look on his face, all the while doing what was necessary for the caroling/party/concert to come off as planned When we got back to the auditorium after caroling it was to find the Volkswagen had been driven into the cafetorium and was wrapped up like a big Christmas package with a big bow on top. She is really into music, and now works for the "Alive and Kicking" music magazine (you can pick one up at Tower or Dimple - free). She has been in Rio's band all four years. (trombone - 1st, tuba - 2nd and various other instruments) She just returned from a "senior trip" (she and 5 girlfriends rented a house in Jenner by the Sea), we were catching up on all that happened this week and I mentioned that you indicated that you had taken pictures of Encina Alumni that played at the Jazz Festival. I told her that you had gotten pictures of Shelley before you knew that she was alumni. That was all I said. She said "Oh, she is in Avalon Swing", as I was wondering how she put that together, she told me that Avalon Swing had come to her school(end of freshman year or beginning of Soph.) and played for the school band, and that was why she started on the tuba! She also said that Shelley has a wonderful voice! It's a small world after all! As to the graduation - I noted Steve Maita (72) was there (couldn't see who else), Jenny Cummings (73) had a nephew graduating and who knows how many other Encina Alumni were there! The Memorial Auditorium was as packed as if there was a concert going on! Certain members of the Certificated Staff (teachers) received honorary recognition from the Class of 1999, they were: LaVerne Gonzales, Joe Lawrence, Charles Gebhardt, John Hawck, Roseann Kerby, Antonio Lasada, Justin Mason, Andrea Mello, Christine Riddle, Michael Smith, Sebastian St. John, and Richard Thorn. HALL OF FAME Diane Schoenborn 73 writes: "I remember that Mr. Huber had one or 2 sons around our age (Mark was '74) who attended Encina. I heard that Mr. Huber later married a student who was younger than we are --- that could be another Hall of Fame catagory!!! Mr. Stallings had a daughter, Carla '76, who attended Encina. Other children?" Larry's daughters Gael Stallings 74 and Carolyn Stallings 82 also attended Encina. Larry also had a daughter named Rachel who would have been an 79 or so but I couldn't find her in my yearbooks. Does anyone know whether Rachel Stallings attended Encina?
