My boys have the week off and we're going skiing at Whistler/Blackcomb in Canada with some friends. I hear it's cold up there. Brrr. VIETNAM Cindy Rea 68 wrote: I have been reading some of the information about alumni and Vietnam. I am only about 12 miles from DC and the Vietnam Memorial. I don't know if anyone wants anything looked up but if so, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Greg Vitaich 62 wrote: Barbara Rea: Thanks for checking on Sgt Arent. REUNIONS Ridgley Sheldon Reece 68 (RidgleyElisabeth_RRMtnDesign@compuserve.com) wrote: I will be more than happy to help another graduating class with their reunion. Our committee had ten people that worked on the planning for almost seven months. Our reunion and the events were very successful. Aside from the business committee, Cindy Rea did the tracking. We were lucky to have a very well rounded group of people working to coordinate it. We will be having a reunion committee meeting soon. If you would like to let the chairman of the 1969 or whenever committees know they are more than welcome to come to our meeting. We might be able to give them some input or whatever. Our meeting will be in the next two weeks we will finalize the date soon. You can give them my phone number 530-753-2297. THANKS Some time back I was corresponding with Michael Billings 71, who mentioned he still had some Encina Apache polo shirts which he purchased when Encina switched to the Bulldog mascot. I asked if Michael would sell me one. This week I received a box from Michael containing two Encina Apache shirts, along with two 71 reunion books which I'll scan in and add to the website. Michael refused to take any payment, saying the shirts were a gift from the class of 71. Thanks very much Michael! SMALL WORLD Kathleen Ketcherside 73 wrote: I recently went on a field trip with my 12 year old daughter Kaitlynn to Monterey. She attends Churchill Middle School. While seated at dinner with a group of chaperones I discovered that 4 of us were Encina Alumni! Steve Cook, Linda Simonds, Judy Krackle (Flint) and myself! I enjoy all your e-mails and I tell everyone about the web site! TEACHERS Diane Schoenborn 73 wrote: I finally talked to Evelyn Fedler (teacher) from Encina at Antique Plaza (she & her husband usually work there Wed. 2-6 PM). She couldn't remember our class, until I told her that Carol Kreig graduated early with us. She remembered Carol fondly as one of her best students. Gave her the Encina URL; she said that she'd get her husband to find it (they just got a new computer, but she didn't know if they had Internet access or email). She's curious about other teachers & didn't know how info about her had gotten to you. LINDA PEARSON 65 This weekend I received a bio from Linda Pearson 65 which I thought I'd share with everyone. I feel positively sedentary after reading about her life. Linda Pearson Sills 65 Occupation: School Psychologist/Guidance Counselor Bio: I have worked in the field of education for many years. I began my career teaching in Kinshasa, Zaire. I then returned to get my MA from Harvard. I then began a two year stay in Ougadougou, Bourkino Faso. Nairobi, Kenya was my next home. It is there that I began to work as a counselor. After four years at this international school, my family returned and I attended Tufts U to become a credentialed as a counselor and school psychologist. I moved to Bangkok where I worked as the middle school counselor. Morocco was my home for the next nine years where enjoyed working in my field at the international school in Rabat. I have just moved to Israel and I am enjoying the challenges of a new home and a new job. I have three terrific children who have been educated in these school. My husband has also worked with me in every school. It has been a wonderful family experience. Trivia: In Zaire I did two thing worthy of note. I met Mohamed Ali and went to the fight with Foreman. Not to be forgotten!! My husband and I took an eleven week trip across central Africa in Landrovers on non-existant roads. We traveled from Kinshasa to Mombasa down to Victoria Falls and then back. We had to carry all of our own supplies, gas, food, water. Friends: Kathy Byrne(Murray) is still my best friend. We try to see each other when I am home in the summer. I would like to hear from Steve Harrold and Paul Richardson. I miss their teasing. I have followed Tim Schmidt's career and I am pleased to report that he was my lab partner in biology. I would like to have the e-mail addresses for many of my classmate. I went to the 25th reunion and had a terrific time. I hope one is being planned for 2000! Hobbies: I enjoy traveling with my family to unusual places. We just spent two weeks exploring Israel and Petra,Jordan. I walk every day along the Mediterranean Sea. I like to take pictures where ever I go. BASKETBALL On 2/8 Deborah Young wrote: Last Wednesday night the Bulldogs were victorious over Lincoln! The score was: Encina 83 vs. Lincoln 59. Actually, Eliott did keep me informed about his change of email address. I updated my Update list and alumni database but forgot to update the 73 class directory. Mea culpa. I actually do receive frequent email asking me to update directory information which I think is great.
