Date: Wed May 9, 2001 9:01 pm Subject: Alumni challenge update ENCINA ALUMNI, The Alumni Challenge is upon us! Here is some important information for those of you who will be attending. We have only received payment from about half of those who have rsvped for the alumni challenge 8^(. If you haven't paid by now, we will accept payment at the door. But please let us know if you can't make it so we can give the caterer an accurate headcount. We will have badges prepared for all who have RSVPd and those who have paid will have a color coded dot showing so. People can arrive for tours anytime from 4:30 pm until 6:00. Dinner will be served from 5:00 pm until 7:30. You can arrive at late at 7:00 and still eat dinner. The game starts at 7:30. Dessert, sodas and music in the cafeteria after the game. Location: ALL alum should check in at the cafeteria when they arrive! Snacks will be sold at the game (except for water, which is not allowed in the gym) and dessert will be sold after the game in the cafeteria. CHALLENGE We have approximately 140 rsvps as of tonight. It's not too late to sign up. We'll accept payment at the door. We reached our per point pledge of $250 today thanks to Nancy Reid Decker 88! We still have a chance to reach the goal of 200 attendees. Those of you who have rsvped, please consider bringing your families and make a few calls to your procastinating classmates. Chuck Armstrong 77's classmates have pledged an additional $35 for each point he scores, making his points worth $285. We would like to thank everyone who has rsvped, made donations or pledged for their support and generosity! Please spread the word among classmates who are not on the net and do not receive the updates and aren't aware of the alumni challenge! PER POINT PLEDGES The total per alumni point pledge stands at $250.00. We achieved our oft revised goal of $250/alumni point thanks to today's generous pledge from Nancy Reid Decker 89 for $4.57/pt! Nancy Reid Decker 89 wrote: "All of this enthusiasm has me wanting to come and see the old timers on the court. Haha. I will pledge the remaining $4-5 and change to get to that $250 goal. However... each throw requires a $5.00 (cash) donation to Encina, per entrant, per shot... After the game, let me who (if there is one) and where to send the GC... No tax consequences, I promise !! " Bob and Steve said we will have about 5 minutes during halftime for folks who are interested in attempting the half court shot. Remember, $5 to Encina for each attempt. PLEDGES/RSVPS Here are some of the more interesting pledges and rsvps... Faris and Fred Kasline wrote: "We had planned to be out of town on the 11th-however, plans have changed. Fred and I would like to come to the dinner and be and see a part of the challenge. It might very well be a challenge for us as well. We just celebrated Fred's 90th birthday on 4/30. We had a wonderful party and I was speechless!! I lost my voice on the Tuesday before-doing better now. We were CO-president's of the PTA for the years 1976-1978. We are long time supporters of Encina and holds many memories for us. Fred would like to know who the fellow was at a dance we were chaperoning in probably 1977 that came to us and asked that we please call his parents-and tell them it wasn't him that had been drinking but someone that had thrown up on him when he went to the "john"!! Will send our check for the dinner and can send you another for the booster club. Great job Harlan! Faris and Fred Kasline" Rocky Niederberger 77 wrote: "I renew my pledge for $5 per point for every point that Joe "the Dominator" Niederberger scores. After the game, will you send me a breakdown of the scoring so that I can total up my donation." ALUMNI CHEERLEADERS We've located a costume for Terri Jurich 74 and Kathy Webber Gill 82 said she thinks her old costume is at her mom's house. Irene Birchfield Campbell 68 wrote: "Hi Harlan, unfortunately I cannot attend Encina Day on 5/11. The Kings play at ARCO that evening. I can't even lend my mascot outfit to anyone because my out of town niece borrowed it a few months ago. I was just going to try and rent an outfit if I had been able to come. Anyway, we will send a donation off to the school and hope you guys make lots of money for the old Alma Mater. Sincerely, GO KINGS!! GO ALUMNI!! Beat those young guys... Irene Birchfield Campbell 68" Kathy Webber Gill 82 wrote: "Harlan... Welp...despite my theory that I CERTAINLY know what teenagers consider COOL... I don't. My soon-to-be-17-year-old-daughter is highly unimpressed with my "sale" on the idea. Thus...I shall cheer without her, sorry to state. However, my 12 year old son, Josh, is highly interested in pointing-and-laughing...I mean: in attending the event... I spoke with my mom just a few minutes ago. I will get the costume tonight... It is going to be wonderful...I'm really grateful to everyone who is coordinating this event... Kathryn (Kathy Webber)" In response to Georgianna Marie 80 and L Rose 80's pledges of $100 if David Robinson 79 wore a cheerleader outfit while playing in the alumni band, David Robinson 79 wrote: "Tell Georgianna I am in for the cheerleader thing if she promises to come in a speedo and perform a half-time "dry land" performance of her much hailed synchronized swimming routine circa. 1978. I am sure Joe "Abreu" Anthony would jump at a chance to accompany her and make synchronized swimming history. For this I would pay $100 what do you say George?" Kathleen O'Neill Cabe 79 wrote: "Dave Robinson is in luck! I happened to dig up my 1979 Varsity cheerleading skirt. And the waist is, hmmm, let me measure...ah, 26 inches. Only one of the reasons I can't volunteer to wear it! The challenge didn't say he had to wear it conventionally, did it? And I have my emblems he could pin onto a tee shirt...-Kathleen Cabe" Kindra Billerbeck 76 wrote: "Go Bill Farley! Wish I could be there. I have two cheer outfits if needed. Size 6 ish and size "impish" (I was really little until the end of Sophomore year!) but maybe someones kid can wear it (it's like a girls 12-14....really). Harlan, I can't seem to get on the website so can you forward this message to Mike Martis Hey Mikey! Sorry I'll miss you at the Alumni challenge. I will never forget you, ever! You made me laugh so much in high school (the amazing sucker trick!) when I needed to smile. E-mail me sometime, gngrroot@aol.com."
